シリーズ第三弾では、御嶽山「赤川地獄谷」、屋久島「宮之浦川」、大雪山系「アイシポップ川」など、日本屈指の特徴を持ちながら、その内部の記録がほとんどない渓谷を筆頭に、日本全国18本の渓谷を収録。表紙を飾るのは「赤川地獄谷（2025年遡行）」。近年の噴火によりこの世のものとは思えない、真っ赤な水流と立ち上る煙に支配された、日本屈指の景観をもつ渓谷です。

【Third Volume of the Gorge Tourism Series】
The third volume in the series features 18 gorges from across Japan, including **Akagawa Jigokudani** on Mt. Ontake, **Miyanoura-gawa** on Yakushima, and **Aishipoppu-gawa** in the Daisetsuzan mountain range—gorges with some of the most distinctive characteristics in Japan, yet with very few existing records of their interiors.

The cover features **Akagawa Jigokudani**, ascended in 2025. Shaped by recent volcanic activity, this gorge presents one of Japan’s most extraordinary landscapes: an otherworldly scene dominated by vivid red water and rising smoke.

深い谷を縫うように流れる清流、そそり立つ岩壁、霧にけむる緑の斜面、深い碧を宿した釜、轟々と音を立てて流れ落ちる瀑布 ──写真は、そうした渓谷の息を呑むような美しさや目の醒めるような迫力を刹那に伝える力を持っています。

これまでの渓谷に関する書籍の多くは、沢ヤや滝ヤと呼ばれる愛好家たちによる専門的な視点から綴られたものが中心でした。そうした書籍は記録として価値のあるものですが、一般読者にとっては難解で、渓谷の魅力に触れる「きっかけ」としては、やや親しみにくかったように感じます。

この写真集は、難しい説明を抜きにして、渓谷という自然の造形美を「観光」していただくことを目的としています。
言葉よりも、まずは目で見て、感じてほしい。渓谷の魅力は、決して一部の愛好家だけのものではありません。
その美しさに心を奪われる、普遍的な魅力を内包していると思っています。私たちが、はじめて渓谷の魅力に心を動かされた時のように。

この一冊を通じて、より多くの方に渓谷の魅力を知っていただければ幸いです。

Many of the moments when we are moved by nature come when we encounter a landscape.

Clear streams winding through deep valleys, towering rock walls, mist-covered green slopes, pools holding a deep blue glow, waterfalls roaring as they plunge downward—photography has the power to capture, in an instant, the breathtaking beauty and striking force of such gorges.

Until now, many books about gorges have been written from the specialized perspective of enthusiasts known in Japan as *sawaya* or *takiya*—people devoted to mountain streams and waterfalls. These books are valuable as records, but for general readers, they can feel difficult to approach, and perhaps not always the most accessible gateway into the appeal of gorges.

This photo book was created with the simple purpose of allowing readers to “tour” the natural sculptural beauty of gorges, without the need for technical explanations.

Before words, we want you to see and feel them with your own eyes.
The appeal of gorges does not belong only to a small group of enthusiasts. I believe they hold a universal beauty capable of capturing anyone’s heart—just as they once captured ours when we first encountered their wonder.

Through this book, we hope that more people will come to discover the beauty and fascination of gorges.
